Kristine's PhD Thesis wins Royal Geographical Society Silver Medal

We've just heard that Kristine's thesis won the Royal Geographical Society of SA's John Lewis Silver Medal for Geography 2012. The silver medal is awarded to a student of Flinders University who has made a significant theoretical or empirical contribution to geography through the completion of a Masters degree or PhD. Kristine's thesis identified the role of SOCIALLY EMBEDDED LEADERSHIP in changing community attitudes and behaviour.

Dr Kristine Peters
(DipT, MBA, PhD)
Principal Consultant

Kristine Peters launched KPPM in 1994 to provide clarity in strategic planning and direction and support in implementation. Over the past two decades she has assisted hundreds of organisations to understand their issues and opportunities and develop simple and effective strategies to improve their performance.

Her early career at management and director level in education and training, finance, retail and project management provided experience in a range of sectors, and reinforced that successful businesses use simple, clear strategies that are easily communicated and understood. Her work with young women in manufacturing resulted in an Engineering 2000 Award, recognising Kristine's ability to engage and deliver.

As a consultant, it is important to understand the deeper human motivations. In parallel to her work, Kristine has completed a Masters in Business Administration with High Distinction, and a PhD that examined cultural change in business and has been published internationally as Socially Embedded Leadership. Her clients have the unique opportunity to tap into her research insights that are grounded in the practical reality of a long and successful business career.

KPPM originally started as Kristine Peters Project Management, reflecting Kristine's ability and reputation as a project manager. She has managed a number of high profile projects that were delivered in seemingly impossible timelines, including the EasyData statistical website for the SA Government (which won a Premier's Award) and the Pathways West pilot of Vocational Education and Training in schools. Her success in challenging projects - whether from within the team or as an external project manager - is based on great people skills, recognising talent and making it fun.

KPPM's research capability is an important asset to our clients, helping to uncover the causal factors in poor organisational performance, the motivating factors in customer purchasing decisions, and the real issues that are holding back Boards and Executive teams. Our customer, staff and social research is well respected. We were commissioned by ZeroWasteSA to research retailer and shopper attitudes to the plastic bag phase-out and develop the communications message and discovered that South Australians were already 'green' and didn't need convincing, but that they have trouble remembering to take their own bags. The phase-out went smoothly and the project won a second Premier's Award for Attaining Sustainability.

Kristine is active in her community. She is the longstanding Chair of the North West Business Development Centre which has won a swathe of national and international awards for its Todd Street Incubator; she is Chair of the Hallett Town Management Committee; is on the Adelaide University's Centre for Housing Urban and Regional Planning reference group, and is involved with her family's sporting committees.
